Last show saw Adam Roberts work his way through Will Owens' personally chosen gauntlet to earn a title shot. Patrick Bentley called in sick last week, leaving Adam Jacobs to find a partner to defend the tag team titles with. Corey Hollis suffered a tough loss to Rick Young but may have suffered a worse loss: the trust and respect of Adam Jacobs, Chrisjen Hayme and Adam Roberts as Will Owens continues to entice Corey to join him.
Ultimate NWA and 90 fans returned to the national guard armory at 406 S. Cedar Hill Dr in Scottsboro, AL for an exciting night of title matches and action.
Adam Roberts came out and said that tonight things would change and no one would stand in his way, which brought out Corey Hollis. Hollis tried to explain that he had Pele'd Adam Roberts on accident. Adam Jacobs was out next to confront Hollis about interfering in his tag match last week. Hollis tries to apologize to both of them. Jacobs says he's sick of excuses and calls out his tag team partner Patrick Bentley. Bentley comes out and says he's sick. Jacobs tells him that's too bad because they'll be defending the titles in the main event BUT before that happens, he wants to go one on one TONIGHT. Will Owens comes out with his Ultimate NWA Heavyweight title as well as the NWA Mid America title. He stirs the pot of trouble as usual, telling Corey that they don't care about him and that he doesn't owe them apologies, they owe HIM an apology for holding him back. Jacobs and Roberts state they’ve both worked for major promotions and they refuse to apologize for paving the way for young guys like Hollis. Bentley and Owens head to the back as Hollis, Roberts, and Jacobs argue.
1) Amos Moses d. Matt Fortune with a sitout full nelson slam in 15:12 The cocky Fortune comes out and threatens to leave if fans don't stop cheering for Moses. Fortune finally gets in the ring and then puts in a mouthpiece to protect his teeth, something he says Moses knows nothing about. Moses slugs Fortune and knocks the mouthpiece right out of his mouth. He follows it up with a thundering clothesline and huge back body drop onto Fortune, before clotheslining Fortune over the top rope. Back in the ring Fortune claims that his hair is being pulled to referee Kent Reznor, Will Owens' hand-picked referee for the evening. Moses has had enough of the lies so he gets his money's worth by jerking Fortune down by the hair and even telling Reznor he really did that time. Fortune gouges the eyes of Moses to regain control. Fortune charges Moses and clotheslines him into the corner, sliding through the ropes as he does it. Fortune goes up top and hits a quick Flying Squirrel. Moses throws him off at a two count. Fortune chopblocks the knee of Moses and begins to go to work on it, while mocking Moses. Fortune attempts to Irish whip Moses to the opposing corner and Moses falls down in pain. Fortune attempts a figure four but Moses rolls him up for two. Fortune goes right back to the knee. Moses fights back with a big arm that knocks Fortune against the ropes. Fortune hits a low dropkick to the knee of Moses but gives Moses too much time to recover and hit a clothesline, followed by a splash in the corner. Moses and Fortune charge each other and hit heads. Fortune recovers and climbs to the top for a moonsault that misses. Moses hits the full nelson sitout slam for the win.
2) Corey Hollis d. Rick Young in 11:43 by ‘rana rollup Young got the better of Hollis back on Oct 24th. Hollis wasn't going to let it happen again. Hollis charges the ring and some insanely stiff brawling begins. These guys are both heavy strikers and they beat the living daylights out of each other in this matchup of the speed of Hollis vs the strength of the much larger Young. Young gains an advantage and hits Hollis with an overhead T-Bone slam. Young hits a vicious combo of kicks, leg drops, and a jumping knee to Hollis. Corey Hollis attempts to regain momentum with a running trip pin but Young powers out and regains control with a big running standing takeover. Corey Hollis flips out of a suplex attempt and lands an enziguri kick. Young powers back to put Hollis in the corner on the turnbuckle and hit his own enziguri. Young washes the face of Hollis with his boot before running and hitting him with a big facewash in the corner. Hollis hits the tilt-a-whirl headscissors into a crossface but Young stands up with it and samoan drops Hollis back. Young hits a big suplex and puts Hollis back on the turnbuckle. Hollis tries to hit a tornado DDT but Young throws him off. Hollis ducks a clothesline and nails Young with the Pele kick. Hollis follows it up with a springboard forearm and attempts a crossbody off the top that staggers Young to a seated position but Young holds on to Hollis and actually gets up with him from the seated position! He hits two backbreakers and then a fallaway slam. Young tries to powerbomb Hollis but Hollis 'ranas him into a pin for the win!
Intermission - it's announced that Ultimate NWA will return to Scottsboro on Nov 21.
3) Will Owens d. Adam Roberts in 17:06 after Corey Hollis hit Roberts with a steel chair. The odds were stacked against Roberts in this match and there was no hiding it. Referee Kent Reznor was handpicked by Owens and showed favoritism the whole match, including not even checking Owens’ tights before the bell. Owens started the match with his usual cowardly stall tactics, running away from Roberts and cowering in the ropes when Roberts would approach. Reznor was keeping Roberts back until Roberts charged the corner and just went right through him to attack Owens. Roberts gains the advantage but the ref actually pulls him off of Owens. Owens takes control and attacks Roberts with a flurry of a offense. Roberts fights back with a big hiptoss and Owens rolls to the outside to recover. Roberts grabs Reznor by the shirt and Owens looks like a kid in a candy store as the fans chant “HIT THE REF!” Owens grabs the mic and says “PLEASE HIT THE REF!” just hoping that already crooked referee Kent Reznor could officially disqualify Roberts. Roberts thinks better of it and Owens comes back in the ring. Owens is slung into Reznor and Roberts attempts to piledrive Owens but Owens backbody drops Roberts to the outside and follows it up with a series of punches and choking. They move back into the ring and Owens locks Roberts in a rest hold around the neck to wear him down. Roberts reaches the ropes three times and Reznor nonchalantly moves Roberts off the ropes all three times. Owens slings Roberts down and goes back to work with a hold around the head. Owens uses the ropes and this match continues to be one of the most unfairly officiated contests in the history of Ultimate NWA. The crowd gets behind Adam Roberts and he stages a comeback, slamming Roberts down, hitting an elbow, and then going up top for big elbow that finds its mark. Reznor gives it a slow 2 count. Roberts is furious. He hits the main event slam on Owens and Reznor once again gives it a slow count. Corey Hollis has seen enough and comes out with a chair. Roberts pushes Owens into the ropes for an O’Connor roll and Hollis swings the chair at Owens, who ducks it. Hollis nails Roberts and Owens covers for the win as Reznor gives a quick count and Hollis looks on in disbelief at what he has done. Roberts is out. Referee Nick Stevens and the ring announcer attempt to revive him and slowly roll him out of the ring.
4) Adam Jacobs and Patrick Bentley is declared a no contest after 7:33 when the referee was knocked out of the ring and lost complete control of the match. These tag team partners truly have a bitter rivalry. Bentley came to the ring still doing the “sick” thing. He soon dropped the act and attacked Jacobs. Jacobs wasn’t having it though and mounted his own offense. Bentley pushes Jacobs into the corner and Jacobs goes up with his feet to the shoulders of Bentley. Bentley throws them off to the outside but Jacobs swings back in, landing them on the shoulders of Bentley again and swinging him down by the head on the inside of the ring. Jacobs chases Bentley, who has rolled out. Bentley catches Jacobs on the ring apron with a knee that leaves him hanging out to dry on the middle rope. Bentley lands a leg drop from the middle turnbuckle onto the hanging Jacobs. Jacobs battles back and traps Bentley in a widow’s peak type standing submission hold. Adam Jacobs hits a rolling neckbreaker and attempts a suplex but Bentley is able to bridge down to his feet and hit a falling neckbreaker. Bentley covers and everyone’s favorite referee Kent Reznor does a fast count for two. Bentley hits a Canadian destroyer for another quick count for two. Bentley puts Jacobs on the turnbuckle and attempts to climb it. Jacobs sunset flips over him, slamming Bentley hard to the mat. Jacobs and Bentley begin to slug it out and Reznor gets between them. They both nail Reznor and he falls to the outside. The bell is called for and Reznor just walks to the back holding his head.
Jacobs and Bentley are still at each others’ throats when they’re reminded by the ring announcer that after a short intermission they will be defending their titles in the main event. It is announced that at the end of the intermission a major announcement would be made regarding next show. Adam Roberts comes out and thanks a loyal fan, Jason, who has just had a birthday. Roberts puts the ring announcer on the spot and tells him to sing Happy Birthday to Jason. A fan tells the announcer that Roberts just had a birthday so he puts Roberts on the spot and everyone sings Happy Birthday to him. Roberts says that a fan has been sending him Michael Jackson songs for the last week and he wanted to give her a chance to sing some Michael Jackson. “Billie Jean” plays and no one wants to sing. Roberts chases the armory guys down and they run from him. It is announced that Nov 21st will have Adam Roberts vs Kent “The Bad Ref” Reznor!
5) Adam Jacobs & Patrick Bentley d. Ben Thrasher & Rick Young in 8:23 when Jacobs hits Young with a Flatliner and Bentley tags in to steal the pin.
Jacobs and Bentley had an intense stare down and shoving match until their opponents came to the ring. Thrasher and Young towered over everyone in the ring and were just downright intimidating. Young and Thrasher both start in the ring, Bentley bails and Jacobs ducks a double clothesline attempt. And smacks Bentley into the match. Bentley stalls around the ring and is able to apply a wristlock to Ben Thrasher. Bentley twists the massive arm of Thrasher and slaps Jacobs to tag him in. Jacobs climbs the turnbuckle and doublestomps the arm of Thrasher. Jacobs hits the ropes and is met with a thundering sitout spinebuster. Tag to Rick Young who hits a suplex and slams Jacobs down hard. Tag to Thrasher who takes a page out of Jacobs’ book with a swinging neckbreaker. Thrasher holds Jacobs down with a rest hold but Jacobs battles back and hits the ropes. Thrasher answers it this time with a boot that just absolutely killed Jacobs. Tag back in to Young. He and Thrasher attempt to do a backbody drop to Jacobs that probably could have put him ten feet in the air. Jacobs holds on though and swings it back for a double DDT that sends Thrasher to the floor. Jacobs climbs the turnbuckle and hits a flatliner onto Young off the middle turnbuckle. Bentley runs over and tags in to steal the pin from Jacobs. Young and Thrasher head to the back as Jacobs and Bentley throw their tag straps down and begin to brawl once again. Corey Hollis runs in and attacks Patrick Bentley in an effort to prove his allegiance to Jacobs. Rick Young runs back in to attack Corey Hollis. Ben Thrasher and Will Owens run out to severely disadvantage Jacobs and Hollis. Adam Roberts hits the ring like a freight train and cleans house better than Martha Stewart. The final three left in the ring are Roberts, Jacobs, and Hollis. Roberts grabs Hollis and puts him on his shoulders for the Main Event Slam. Jacobs doesn’t want him to do it but Roberts slams him off as Owens and friends look on. Roberts grabs the mic and sarcastically says Owens wanted him to give Corey an apology earlier so “Sorry Corey!”
Notes: Ultimate NWA returns to Scottsboro, AL on Nov 21st. Adam Roberts vs Kent Reznor is already signed. I imagine we’ll see some type of confrontation between Corey Hollis and Rick Young, as well as Patrick Bentley and Adam Jacobs. They are also set to run on Dec 12th. Rumor has it that some Ultimate NWA talent may be working at the TNA show in Nashville at the Wildhorse Saloon on Monday November 9th. Impressive newcomers to Ultimate NWA Matt Fortune and Ben Thrasher will be appearing soon for NWA Main Event in Nashville. Amos Moses has a cool new entrance video and continues to be one of the most loved wrestlers at Ultimate NWA.
