Great Championship Wrestling results from January 15 at the Gr8 Sk8 Plex in Phenix City. Crowd was a legitimate 200+.
Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shaun Banks) came out to harrass two Hooters girls, who were said to be young, skinny and quite Unhooter like. J-Rod and Frankie Valentine chased the bad guys away. J-Rod got on his cell phone like he was talking to Cru's mama about her boy's bad behavior.
(1) Ron Stalker (with Princeton Gainey) beat Kareem Abdul Jamar. Reported as a subpar match because they were missing on stuff. Gainey interfered leading to Stalker hitting his finisher and using the tights to pin Jamar.
(2) Shaun Banks vs. Frankie Valentine ended as a double DQ. Said to be a very solid match. Cru, Quentin Michaels and J-Rod all got involved before it was over. Valentine and Banks banished from the building to prevent them from interfering in the main event.
(3) Kareem Abdul Jamar & Joey Lightning beat Tex Monroe & Scotty Beach when Lightning pinned Monroe. Babyface vs. babyface. Competitive match with everyone getting to hit their big moves.
(4) Merchants of Death (Orion Bishop & Murder One & Slaughter with Wicked Nemesis) beat Southside Trash & Rob Adonis when Slaughter pinned Adonis. Nemesis’ mask was said to look awesome from a distance, but seeing it up close kills the illusion because it just one of those cheap plastic jobs. They did a good job of building to a confrontation between the two behemoths, Bishop and Adonis, but when they finally squared off it didn’t make you want to see more.
(5) J-Rod beat Cru Jones (with Quentin Michaels) to retain the GCW Heavyweight Title. Michaels brought out Nemesis as the special timekeeper and Gainey as the special referee. J-Rod acknowledged that the deck was stacked against him. Good action inside and outside the ring. Gainey never got past a one count when J-Rod tried to pin Jones, and fast counted any time Jones attempted to pin on J-Rod. Nemesis tried to get involved and got nailed by J-Rod. Jones wanted to use the belt, but before he could do so, John Bogie came out of the crowd in a ref shirt and carried Gainey to the back. J-Rod then gave Jones a DDT on the belt with Bogie making the count.
