Ahmed Gill, the man accused of slaying Chris "Solid" Long last Saturday night at Shooter Alley, professed his innocence during an appearance in DeKalb County Magistrate Court Friday.
According to a story by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gill said he was not guilty instead of stating his name as requested by Judge Richard Foxworth. The hearing was held to determine if the state had enough evidence to hold Gill on charges of murder and aggravated assault.
Gill covered his face with a t-shirt during the proceedings.
However, Gill told a WSB-TV reporter he wasn't hiding in shame. he wasn’t hiding in shame. "I'm hiding my face because I'm being exploited enough for something I didn't do," Gill told WSB's George Howell.
"I couldn't believe his arrogance. And he was just sitting there with his head covered,” Long’s sister, LoriAnn Hollingsworth, said. “Chris is about to be covered forever and he had the arrogance to sit there and try to be in charge and say I will get bond. He never deserves to be free again."
Long’s funeral was held today at the Carmichael Funeral home in his hometown of Smyrna.
Gill will be held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail until a preliminary hearing in DeKalb Superior Court on December 28.
Gill was previously charged with murder related to a 2008 bar fight in Kentucky, but investigators say he was acquitted by a jury.
Another man, Jason Stephens, is accused of driving Gill to and from the club. Stephens is charged with two felony counts -- making false statements to police and being a party to a crime. Judge Foxworth set his bond at $15,000.
