WWE COO Donna Goldsmith said this week that plans for the company to
launch a TV Network have been pushed back at least two years to 2012 or
even 2013. "It's taken us longer to galvanize the troops and figure out
where we're going," Goldsmith revealed at the Reuters Global Media
Summit. "My guess is more like the middle of 2012 or even the beginning
of 2013 before we're ready to go forward." Goldsmith added that WWE's
cable model would likely be similar to the MLB Network with several
companies owning a stake. She confirmed that Linda McMahon has told her
that she doesn't plan to return to the company as CEO following her
failed Senate campaign in Connecticut. Goldsmith was also complimentary
when asked to compare WWE talent to NBA players (Goldsmith formerly
managed Global Licensing at the NBA before leaving to work for WWE). She
said: "Our talent is so wonderful and so articulate, to bring them to a
Wal-Mart managers meeting is something we do often. They understand the
business side of things, which is so different to any NBA player, I
wouldn't bring the twelfth guy on the bench with me to Wal-Mart because
I wouldn't know what would come out of that."
