NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood report for December 3
by Jay Cal
It’s Friday Night, its 8 o’clock, so you know what I’m watching, right? Anaheim Ducks Hockey, I guess I missed the memo. Never fear, because I tuned in Saturday Night at 11 o’clock to tune into the best hour of pro-wrestling on television once again. And I do find myself fortunate to be able to watch NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce wrestle live, drive an hour home, turn on the television and find him again. Another offering from NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood starts with The Three Amigos, Todd Keneley, James Morgan, and Stu Stone, given us the run down of the show. The Big Main Event on KDOC will be none other than Willie Mack getting his shot at NWA World Champion Adam Pearce, with Colt “Boom-Boom” Cabana being the special referee. Cue the music.
Rico Dynamite gets the introduction. And the fans are already jeering. Before Rico’s opponent can be announced “Scrap Iron” makes his way into the ring and steals the microphone from Announcer Angelo Trinidad. Pearce sporting a new fedora is quick to make peace with Rico Dynamite. “I’ve got nothing against you, but I’ve got something important to say!” Pearce is none to happy about having to defend his title against Willie Mack, again. Pearce demand the fans bow in reverence because he is “Scrap Daddy!”
Before Pearce can get carried away on the mic, “Skull Krusher” Rasche Brown’s music hits and the behemoth enters the ring. Pearce is quick to bow out and no one could blame him. Rasche is incredible. Pearce tips his hat and is on his way. Rico Dynamite won’t be so lucky. Rico refuses to shake the hand of Rasche and that might have been a mistake. Brown doesn’t take well to being disrespected. Rico impressively is able to match power with the big man from Milwaukee. He is able to maneuver out of harms way while being back into the corner by the “Skull Krusher!” Even getting a few cheap shots off on the big man.
It's no surprise that Brown takes control, however it is surprisingly when Rico Dynamite kicks out of a huge shoulder block followed up with a devastating screwdriver suplex. I take my hat off to Rico! Rico is quick to turn the tides of the match with a leg lariat that takes Brown off his feet. “Skull Krusher” is human! Rico doesn’t let up; continue to working on the ropes. Rico even hits a powerful slam on Brown. Unfortunately for Rico, a slip on the rope destroys his momentum, as he crashes to the mat, which looked like it might have been a back diving senton of sorts. Brown gets up mocking Rico and just lays him out with that Spear. And Brown finishes it off with a chokeslam. Rico looked really good in defeat, but Brown is unstoppable.
Jonny Loquasto is in the back with “A-Double” Austin Aries. And I’m a little surprised. Loquasto refers to the Vascular Vegan as the hottest free agent in pro-wrestling today. J-Lo must be hitting up www.alliance-wrestling.com . Loquasto is plugging the big television taping at the Showcase Regent Theater on La Brea, Los Angeles California. Aries decrees he will not be at Pink’s Hotdog. Aries not happy with Loquasto, walks out.
David Marquez narrates the exploits of NWA Heritage Tag Team Champions the Rock NES Monsters and how they’ve successfully retained their titles through many challenges. Natural Selection’s advisor Percy Pringle has advised his clients Natural Selection to issue a three way challenge, non-title match in hopes of gaining the attention of the Hollywood Match Makers and we’ll see this match, next week on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. This is followed up with an interview of Los Luchas conducted in their native tongue, Spanish. My limited understanding of taking 2 years of High School Spanish leads me to believe that Los Luchas that they are not to be over looked and that they are nobodys stepping stone. Or at least that’s what I’m guessing.
We’re in the back with Willie Mack. This interview from Mack has done more to put him over then any match he’s won to date.
Early on the broadcast you hear Todd Keneley refer to Willie Mack as rags to riches and he isn’t far off. And although Mack is fun loving in the ring, this is a very serious side to Mack. Mack attributes his wrestling career to a teacher from High School saying that he would be good at it and at age 14 he started training. He’s been doing it ever since. Mack talks about his youth growing up. He was in Foster Care, emancipated, and has had a tough go. Now he’s living with his father, who has been very supportive. Mack is very candid in this interview. Mack attributes his success to his mother who passed away when he was 14.
Back to ring side and Navajo Warrior is out to the ring, in singles action. His opponent is Nick Madrid. Nick Madrid is a superstar in the making. His reactions are great. I would watch Nick Madrid matches all day. Although he is smaller than Navajo Warrior, you know his heart will carry him through this match.
Navajo Warrior uses his power to gain advantage, but Madrid’s quick with arm drags and drop kicks keeps Navajo Warrior from getting comfortable. For some reason the announcers keeping talking about Madrid’s Lucha Libre background. But I’ve done my research; he’s a student of Lance Storm, which in my books gains him instant credibility. Unfortunately for Madrid, the Warrior is just punishing the poor lad. Madrid certainly never says die and his second wind nearly give him the win.
A Tornado DDT is squashed by the Warrior and its only a matter of time before Navajo Warrior gets the win, regardless of how many lame puns the announcers use. David Marquez joins the Navajo Warrior in the ring who is whining about threats of suspensions and fines. The Navajo Warrior mentions his manager at NWA Headquarters, which I assume means Charlotte. Nonetheless Nick Madrid takes a loss, Navajo Warrior gets the win.
One “Rock Superstar” Joey Kaos is in the back now and I like the direction of these backstage interviews. Similar to the “Who I Am” articles written on NWAHollywood.com, Joey too is candid about the mistakes he made coming up in the business.
Joey talks about his 18 month reign as XPW Television Champion and for a second I am remember how much I enjoyed Kaos back then. I think he was the shinning moment for most of XPW. I was very disappointed when he lost that Television Championship. This segment is time well worth spent. This segment puts Kaos over better than any match he’s wrestled in the NWA thus far. The combination of Kaos and Avalon are definitely one of the most exciting pairings in the NWA and Kaos is positive that he has the answers that Joey Ryan questions.
Next up is Colt “Boom-Boom” Cabana who explains that he is the special referee for this showdown between Adam Pearce and Willie Mack. The two had faced a few weeks earlier where Adam won under nefarious means. Colt promises a fair match, let’s see what you got. The Legendary 10lbs of Gold and the man who has worn that title three times walks out first. And right away Pearce and Cabana have words for each other. I am so happy to be able to see the NWA Worlds Championship on a weekly basis. For a title rich with history that has been around the waist of so many.
World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Wrestling Federation and Total Non-Stop Action have at one point or another recognized the importance of that title. And I feel honored that I am able to see that belt nearly ever week right here in Los Angeles California. The Fans in Hollywood are lucky to see Adam Pearce defend that title weekly. Willie Mack gets cheers from the crowd and praise from the announcers. You get the sense that Willie Mack is really feeling it.
After his piece talking about his background, the native of St. Louis and a resident of South Central Los Angeles, hasn’t been closer to being the World Champion than he is right now. Pearce takes his time getting ready for action. You can see Pearce hates Colt Cabana. His face scrunches up when Cabana checks him for weapons. And every thing Cabana says to Pearce is met with a mean mug. A birdie told me that midway through this match, the ring becomes damaged, but this doesn’t seem to stop Mack and Pearce from putting on an extraordinary match. Todd Keneley, tries to draw parallels between Dusty Rhodes and Willie Mack and Ric Flair and Adam Pearce.
Now I don’t know if I agree with these two analogies, I do agree that the personalities of Pearce and Mack are as about as opposite ends of the spectrum as Flair and Rhodes. Pearce tries to convince Mack that the fans don’t have his best interest at hand. But that doesn’t stop Mack from taking the early advantage in this match. Pearce is quick to get out of dodge. Being a ring general, Pearce knows when to get out of harms way and to slow down the pace of the match. The commercial cuts the action, but when we’re back Mack is in control and nearly gets the victory. Mack hits his signature corner clothesline followed up the by the seated corner dropkick.
And Pearce again looks to get a break by holding on the bottom rope, hoping to get a time out. Pearce finds his way outside the ring again. Cabana keeps counting and Pearce is more than happy to take the count out. Mack not having any of that, gives chase to Pearce on the outside and continues to torment the World Champion. Pearce nearly loses the title, but his ring awareness keeps Colt’s count to three. Pearce uses leverage and the tights of Willie Mack to send him to the outside and it looks like Pearce might finally get a time out after all. Pearce threatens to give Colt a closed fist and Referee Cabana offers one back. Pearce will not be able to intimidate Cabana like he would a regular official.
Once Pearce makes his way to the outside he takes control of this match. Pearce lays a chop right into Mack and lets the fans ringside know that he’s in charge. The tide of the match changes with a blink of eye as Mack manages to connect with an enzuguri. And the NWA producers figure now as good as time as any to show you backstage with Scorpio Sky down, while both are down. Pearce gets to his feet first and meets Mack with a huge Avalanche. Somehow Mack is able to take control of the match with a clothesline, forearm smash, a body slam and a Big Leg Drop. Mack was close to a victory, didn’t hook the leg.
Pearce’s wherewithal takes advantage of Cabana; by “accidently” kicking him into the ropes that prevents Mack’s planned aerial attack. Adam Pearce climbs the top rope and executes a Frankenstiener that would have made Scott Steiner proud. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pearce hit that move. However the move has no affect on Mack, as he bounces right up and hits the Worlds Champ with a T-Bone Suplex. Pearce kicks out at two and both men now struggling to get to their feet. Both men make their way to their feet in opposite corners before Mack charges Pearce and lands a vicious leg lariat.
Mack manages to connect with his patented Samoan Drop into a standing Shooting Star Press that have beaten many of opponents. But not tonight, not the champion. Pearce kicks out at two, once again. The match again spills outside the ring. This time Referee Cabana follows Mack and Pearce.
When the action resumes in the ring, a shot from Mack accidentally causes Pearce to knock down Cabana. This affords the opportunity to use his belt. Cabana puts the breaks on that and receives a wad of spit in his face for doing so. That sets off “Boom-Boom” who lands a right on Pearce. Mack goes for the pin and even Cabana’s fast count can end the match. At this point Pearce tosses Cabana into Mack and Pearce takes the title and tattoos both Cabana and Mack. This match will undoubtedly be thrown out. Pearce lays into Cabana even further and the match ends with Pearce standing tall as champion, win lose or draw.
That’s all for this week in Hollywood. Will see you next week. And to keep up with all the going ons of the NWA, please check out www.alliance-wrestling.com
Oceanside, California.
On a night when "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce would look to successfully defend his National Wrestling Alliance Worlds Championship for the 20th time against "The Mirror Image" Ricky Mandel in front of a the fans of Oceanside Boys and Girls Club. Pearce and Mandel would battle back and forth during the Semi-Main Event of SoCal Pro Wrestling's Redemption.
It would seem that the World's Champion would leave Oceanside in tact, when NWA North American Champion The Sheik would storm ring side and begin to attack Adam Pearce. Targeting and perhaps re-injuring the shoulder of "Scrap Iron" the Sheik locked in the infamous Camel Clutch. The Sheik would continue his brutality against the NWA Worlds Champion when SoCal Crazy would come out wielding a chair to chase out the "Madman from the Middle East."
A visibly upset David Marquez was heard yelling at the Sheik, "You aren't supposed to be here!" No word yet if this attack will affect the scheduled title defenses Adam Pearce has in Hollywood California, Wednesday December 8th for the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and for West Coast Wrestling Connection, in Portland Oregon against Aaron Bolo on Saturday the 11th and against Quiz in Springfield Oregon on Sunday the 12th.

NWA Vintage's Atticus Reign joins Alliance Radio with Kirby Mack Dec. 21st 8PM EST., 5PM PST
You demanded it. The last time Kirby Mack joined the Alliance, it was one of the top rated podcast in Alliance History. And we spent as much time talking baseball as we did talking wrestling. Well this time Kirby is back, but this time around he will be in a co-host position. Were still talking about your NEW ADDICTION, but Kirby and Jay will welcome the newest member of the New Jersey branch of the NWA, Atticus Reighns of NWA Vintage.
Over the years the State of New Jersey has been home to many famous pro-wrestling matches. And over the years there have been several NWA promotions representing the Garden State and 2010 would see three, active promotions, NWA Force One, NWA Dawg Pound, and NWA Vintage. Atticus Reighns would present his first NWA sanctioned event in September of 2010 featuring some of the best talents from New Jersey including talents from Force One and DAWG. In 2011 Atticus has plans to put on more shows and honor the history and tradition of the NWA. Will be talking to Atticus about the creation of NWA Vintage, and what's next for the promotion. If you have questions for Atticus or Kirby you can call in and talk wrestling.
