Personally I think that's bullcrap. It's one thing to snub acknowledging the deaths of Test and Umaga, what with them wanting to protect some sort of PG-rated image and all *points to tongue*, but it's quite another to give the ol' brushoff as it pertains to one of the pioneers of this business. I know they've got a lot on their hands, but there has to be some sort of department in Stamford that handles this sort of thing.

I went to Rocket and Flash Monroe's apartments a lot. Joe Turco was over there Danny - I found this picture in a Ring Wrestling magazine from 1972 or so. Pretty sure it's outside the apartments you mention and I think you took it.

Diamondmd: Thanks for the shot of the Brothers Monroe and Joe Turco. I do vaguely remember shooting some pictures of them outside their apt. I remember Flash thought it was important that they all folded their arms the same way! I called Rocket a few nights ago. It was sure great to talk with him.

Folding ones arms is important for pictures. It's the only way they can keep their fingers out of their noses!

Bobby, What ever happened to Joe Turco? He came by my house a couple of times to get pictures. had a hard time communicating. I don't think he understood "Southern."

MR SIMMONS I WANNA ASK A COUPLE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NWA CHAMPIONSHIP...WHY DID THEY NOT LET JOHNNY WALKER AKA MR WRESTLING #2 HAVE A RUN WITH THE BELT...I THOUGHT THE NWA NEVER LET A WRESTLER HAVE IT WITH A MASK BUT, BLUE DEMON JR HAD IT...WHEN A NEW CHAMPION WAS TO BE CROWNED ..WHO REALLY HAD THE MOST SAY SO (PROMOTOR WISE)... I THINK DORY JR OR JACK AND HARLEY MADE GOOD CHAMPIONS...BUT I THINK RIC FLAIRS FIRST TITLE RUN WAS WHAT MADE HIM ' THE CHAMPION ' DURING THAT RUN BE WRESTLED HEELS AND BABYFACES ALIKE..EVEN THOUGH HE NEVER COULD COMPLETE THAT JUMP OFF THE TOP ROPE...I THINK HE WAS A BETTER CHAMPION THAT HOGAN EVER WAS

My understanding is that Muchnick was not ok with a masked champ. But I think Sam dropped the ball on this one. Wrestling 2 could of been huge as NWA champ. With TBS and Gordon Solie pushing him. Also Wrestling 2 could of walked line between heel and face in the territorys easy.

Blue Demon held the title in a different NWA. Nothing about the NWA today resembles the NWA's first thirty-five or forty years.
Besides, according to Johnny, he never wanted it anyway.

Sorry guys, I have been out of touch for a while....
The NWA Title back in the day when it meant something was controlled by the Board of Directors of the NWA. Sam Muchnik when he was President of The NWA carried a lot of weight with those decisions. Promoters would lobby for their star when a title change was in the wind. The ultimate decision was always with the board of directors.
A masked man as champion was never considered. It was always a stipulation in title matches where a masked man was involved WAs that they would unmask immediately if they won the title. The champion represented the NWA and was the face of the NWA. They wanted guys that looked like champions and were tough enough to legitimately back up that title.
This was not always the case as things changed as years went by. Wrestling 2 is a dear friend and we stay in touch. He was a good wrestler and may have been a great champion, but to be honest he probably made more money sticking with mask. I know he was able to stay home more with his family and because he protected his gimmick so well, he was left alone in public. It was always a blast to go somewhere together with our families, football games, the circus,....and people would recognize me and he would be sitting next to me and they did not have a clue.........
Hope this answers some of your questions....
I am off to CAC the weekend, will be back around the 26th...

ok ty bobby and rich that kinda answered my question on the nwa and the masked wrestler situation...i just wondered why the masked men were banned from having the title or it was just an angle to use...such as making the guy unmask after a tile change....btw i enjoy PSP and listening about the old days and wrestlers of the past...Rich , fine job on picking mr Simmons and mr Oates for that show...things are going well RICH ....i enjoy the programming even thought i only get to hear it in the archives and not live...but i never miss a week...im always learning about the past from the guys and its more fun than watching a hornswaggle - chavo match....lol.....ty for answering my question

I was watching some of TNA tonite, i hate to say it but, i want to see RIC Flair retire. What i saw tonite was not encouraging...when i saw the interview i didnt know he had slowed that much.....I would like to see him manage and not try to get in a ring anymore... I wanna remember him as the NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT WRESTLING CHAMPION, not as what i saw on tv tonite.... Like JACKIE FARGO & JERRY LAWLER, FLAIR is someone i grew up with and one of my wrestling heroes.....im sorry i know he loves it dearly but it's time to retire....he will still be my wrestling hero but i dont wanna see him go out in a wheelchair

I was just thinking of some of the feuds and angles of the 60s. I remember the feud between Buddy Fuller and Mario Galento, week after week at the City Auditorium in Atlanta. Would Fuller get Galento into his step-over toe hold and break his leg as he had done with Jet Monroe, the Baby Blimp, and others, or would Galento get Fuller in his hangman's hold and mess up his neck forever? It finally came down to the fact that both Fuller and Galento shared a hatred for the Masked Medics and they finally teamed up against the masked men with Fuller and the fans wondering whether or not Galento could be trusted. All through the match it was made obvious that Fuller was looking over his shoulder. They finally won the match, beating the Medics for the belts (Southern Title, I believe). The Medics had left the ring while Galento and Fuller celebrated their win, holding up the belts. The fans were elated! A new tag team had been born! The fans were feeling guilty for ever doubting Mario. He had turned out to be trustworthy afterall. But then as Fuller was about to leave the ring first, Galento jumped him and immediately went for the hangman's hold! Someone had to come running from the dressing room to save the day! What memories!

i have never been in a ring but i touched a turnbuckle once... i just wanted say something about the latest episode on the former tna female wrestler/ radio host feud.... when i heard the supposed phone call between the two.'... i think i was just as offended as the female wrestler would've been... some of the comments shouldve never been aired on the radio to begin with...tna needs to go to a doctor and have the cancer operation it so badly needs....this incident shouldve never happened in the first place..also, my feelings on the hogan regime is that hogan will never be vince, because vince is a television/ wrestling promotor with years of experience, hogan is a wrestling character, that with the help of vince sr and verne gagne helped create...tna can copy vinces show- his style but they will never beat vince on mondays until they have better writing ..and a champion like flair was that is believeable and capable putting fans in the seats.. as far as Flair wrestling, like i said hes my wrestling hero and needs to either manage or would make a fantastic trainer for young wrestlers..instead of a tna farm system like vince has with FCW...TNA could take these young southern independent promotions and take their top champions and give that promotion a segment on their show...and like vince has guest hosts, why cant tna have weekly guest commentators(former wrestlers)..maybe have wrestling specials like having a wrestler reunion tv show and have it to respect and showcase wrestlers from the past....TNA has so many options to explore .... one of my last gripe is i was watching a confrontation between wrestlers and you could tell it was scripted when one wrestler talked the other was lip syncing just the guy just said...if tna really wants to be like vince..let them hire a wrestler like hornswaggle and let him wrestle A.J.every week......no i never wrestled but you can see the flaws from afar
