suggestting that Randy Orton will wrestle in the main event of Wrestlemania vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Remember, especially this year, the WWE have simpley hyped the fact that the winner of the Royal Rumble would just be in the main event, not wrestling for a championship also.
It would also make sense with Orton bucking up against authority and with the turn of Stephanie so obvious, it would make even more sense for Vince, Shane, and Linda to turn to a man that has always bucked up against authority.

I don't know where you heard those rumors, but not only has Stone Cold not worked a match in six years, he retired largely due to neck injuries. Other than one of the biggest names in wrestling history, not exactly something I think WWE would want to throw their chips into.

The torch had something about it. If you recall, about 3 or 4 months ago, Ross has talked about Austin being in great shape and was talking about doing one more year, that he was in great shape and rested enough to possibly do one more year.
However, a month or 2 ago, Ross came back and said, " Austin isn't in great shape and I don't see a return anytime but stranger things have happend."
I can look at that 2 ways. One, Ross is being honest and Austin isn't in great shape.
The second way? Ross is covering his tracks and any kind of surprise the WWE may have. I find it out that Austin was in great and in the best shape Ross had seen him in...in a very long time to the next month saying he was in terrible shape and would never wrestle again. Just seems a little fishy. I could be wrong and the rumor mill could be wrong, but you have to admit that it would boost ratings and Ross's comments are quite odd.
