It was summer 1970. I was president of the Sputnik Monroe Fan Club and Sputnik had been doing a stint in Oklahoma. I got word that Sputnik had defeated Danny Hodge and was the new Jr. Heavyweight Champion. I was elated, especially since the next Friday night's card in Atlanta had Bobby Shane taking on Danny Hodge for the Jr. title. I assumed Sputnik would replace Hodge that night at the City Auditorium as the new champion. To my dismay, it was Hodge who came out of the dressing room, wearing the belt. He successfully defended it that night against Wonder Boy. A week or so later in an Oklahoma rematch, Sputnik defended the Jr. Heavyweight Belt and lost it back to Hodge. How nice of Sputnik to loan his belt to Danny for an Atlanta appearance.
