I remember Ray Gunkel (probably with Buddy Fuller) wrestling Rip Hawk and Swede Hansen one Friday night at the Atlanta City Auditorium. The match was over and the heels were going up the aisle toward the dressing room. They had taken a lot of heat and were still doing so. Surrounded by police officers, people were still trying to get at them. Gunkel and his partner were several yards behind in the same aisle. Suddenly, an object came from the balcony. I believe it was a glass bottle. It hit Hansen, opening up his head. Gunkel caught up with the heels and started fighting. After a moment, they headed back to the ring and climbed in. Instead of a slugfest in the ring, Hansen was on his knees and Gunkel was twisting his head but it was pretty obvious to me that he was checking out Hansen's injury. I think with the crowded aisle, the ring was the safest place to be. I also realized how much the wrestlers take care of one another.
