I always shot pictures during the Saturday morning TV tapings at Channel 17 in Atlanta. I would be standing in the wings behind the cameras where all kinds of junk and props were. Before his interviews, Abdullah the Butcher would come over by me and start to look around. He found a can of lemon-scented furniture polish and a light bulb and took it with him to the interview desk. I can't remember if his manager at the time was Bearcat Wright or who but his manager was the one interviewed while Abdullah stunned everyone by spraying furniture polish in his mouth, then he broke the light bulb on the desk and ate it piece by piece. When the interview was done, he came over by me again and spit and sputtered into a large trash can! He'd look at me and I'd just shake my head.

that man gave it his all... his shoot video was strange to watch. i actually feared for people who got in the ring with him as a kid. but he seems pretty articulate in that shoot.

I tell you Abdullah was one of the scariest wrestlers when I was coming up.I had family in the business in the 60,70, 80. I got to meet many of them as people .I remember the City Auditorium and also the Porterdale Gym .My grandmother worked at the drugstore next to the gym and she would feed the wrestlers. Freddie Miller was her brother I had the privilege of meeting Abdullah and eating at his restaurant. He wasn't there but they called him told him I was there and he came over and spent about an hour talking about the good days of wrestling. It was amazing he was so nice considering the way he was in the ring. Oh how I wish wrestling was like it used to be. My uncle worked with wrestling some doing promotions etc and his wife was sitting in the front row in Porterdale during a battle royal and Charlie Cook was thrown over the ropes in her lap breaking her arm. Those were the days I still live in Covington and miss the Friday and Saturday night events.
