First of all, where is everyone? There used to be a lot of dialog about days gone by. Am I looking in the wrong place? Anyway ...
Sad to hear about the passing of Lester Welch. If my memory serves me correctly, there was a Cadillac tournament in Atlanta that finally wound up in the Omni, which was pretty new (Now I hear it's gone). The beautiful red Cadillac with the white top was parked on the arena floor. Bobby Shane won the final match to win the Caddy and the place erupted with angered fans. Seems like he had done something underhanded and the decision was quickly reversed, but not fast enough. Some angry fans ran over to the car when they saw that Shane had won and scratched the paint with a nail or whatever. I had heard that the car actually belonged to Les Welch? I think it was the first Cadillac tournament since 1964 when Sputnik Monroe beat Dick the Bruiser at the raceway to become the first Georgia Heavyweight Champion and winner of the car.

This happened when I was still working for Gunkel Enterprises, however the car was actually Bob Armstrong's. I made many trips with him in that car. They let Shane drive it for a week and as I understand it they gave Bob a great deal on the car.

Thanks, Bobby. I do remember now that it was Bob Armstrong. And thanks, Rich for the pictures--just as I remembered. You just have everything at your fingertips, don't you? I only wish you had a video of Sputnik Monroe in action.
