You hear alot about Paul Jones and Fred Ward. But don't know much about Charlie as a wrestler or promoter. He promoted matches in Augusta where I went to matches. What kind of relationship did he have with Atlanta office, how good of a wrestler was he,when did he pass etc. Also did he have a roll in the war with All South.

When I began attending matches in Columbus in 1962, Mr. Harben was the referee for all the matches there and in Macon. In 1963, when Mr. Ward ended his agreement with ABC booking in Atlanta, matches were held across the river in Phenix City, using the ABC wrestlers and he refereed there. After Mr. Ward resumed his deal with Atlanta in 1964, the wrestlers resumed working for Mr. Ward, but I don't think Mr. Harben worked Macon or Columbus again, because Mr. Ward had been using others, including his son-in-law, Leon Ogle, as referees then. Later, as I understand it, Mr. Harben began promoting some towns. I heard he was also the representative for the ABC company when he was refereeing, and kept an eye on the gate at various towns, but I don't know if that was true.
