when I was a kid (early 60s) my dad you to take me to the wrestling matches, sometimes. We both loved it. One of the places we went was the Sports Arena. If memory serves, this was a different venue from Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. Am I correct on that? If so, can anyone tell me where the Sports Arena was located? regards, Bil

Yes, they were two different buildings. Not sure of the address.

The Sports Arena was located on Chester Avenue, just off Memorial Drive. Paul Jones bought it and turned it into the Georgia Championship Wrestling offices and had matches there on Friday nights when the Atlanta City Auditorium was booked with the symphony, Shriner's Circus, etc. As photographer for GCW, I went over to the Sports Arena every Monday morning to show my proof sheet from Friday night to Jim Bell or Freddie Miller. They would pick certain shots for the week's "Ringsider." I would go home, print the pics in my darkroom, and bring them back the next day. Fond memories of the Sports Arena.
