RPW Heavyweight Championship
Kyle Matthews vs. Shaun Banks ©
Kyle Matthews put his exclamation mark on the pro wrestling landscape on July 31 at the 2010 Sizzling Summer Bash with his amazing performance against WWE's Daniel Bryan. While Matthews just barely came up short against the American Dragon, he gained a whole new legion of fans for his effort. On August 21, Matthews challenged Shaun Banks for the RPW Championship. Banks sheepishly invoked his right to not defend the title within a 30-day window. Commissioner Sal Rinauro admitted that he couldn't force him to defend the belt due to meeting his previous title obligations in the month. However, Rinauro still sanctioned a non-title match between to two. Banks was already a bit out of his element without Cru Jones in his corner. Matthews took advantage of these circumstances and pulled out a shocking win over the champion. On September 4, there will be no loopholes to jump through. Banks will defend the gold against Matthews!
J-Rod's First RPW Television Title Defense
J-Rod and Jimmy Rave had been on a collision course over the RPW Television Championship ever since the Rave was crowned as the inaugural champion on July 3. When Rave won the championship, referee Dustin Robinson blew the call by missing J-Rod's foot resting underneath the bottom rope. The rematch on July 17 ended in a 10-minute time limit draw. Another match was sanctioned on August 21. J-Rod captured the gold, but not without more controversy. Rave dropped down on an attempted sunset flip and illegally used the ropes for leverage. When Rave refused to release the rope, Robinson kicked his arm off the rope. After the match, Rave was hot about Robinson's physical involvement. Despite this, the decision stands and J-Rod is the new champion. And he will make his first title defense on September 4!
