Back in the days when I was a mark, a kid, and president of the Sputnik Monroe Fan Club, I had the privilege of going on 2 road trips in Florida with Sputnik, Rocket, Saul Weingeroff, and Bill Dromo. We went to Eau Gallie and to Jacksonville. Each time as we left Tampa, I asked Sputnik who they were wrestling that night and he didn't know. Once we got to the arenas, they went into the dressing room and I found a seat. As I saw the posters, read the programs, and heard conversations, I realized the people in those towns had been chomping at the bits all week to get to that night to see this big match, some kind of Texas Death-tornado-brass knucks-whatever championship match! And the wrestlers were totally unaware! That was very interesting to me. I was just thinking about that this morning.

I will guess that, whatever type of match was lined up, those guys made it look like they had worked out just for that match for a week or two. They were great and could make any match look fantastic.

Yeah, I later came to realize that it was a job to them and it didn't matter what had been promoted in the town, they would find out once they arrived and do their job. I just remember as a kid living from Friday night to Friday night. I could hardly do my work in school for thinking about the big card coming up at the City Auditorium. Then to find out the wrestlers weren't even aware! ;D
